Technologies

Not every technology is appropriate for every project. Sometimes it is a combination of technologies that will give you the best results. This is a partial list of tools that System Werks can utilize to help your business or non-profit.

Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP (LAMP)

There are many ways to build a website, but these are our favorites. PHP is a open-sourced, powerful, flexible and mature programming language that many websites use to build dynamic web pages. Combined with the open-source MySQL database server, Apache web server and Linux operating system, you can get a very affordable (practically free!) platform and solution for you to build and grow your business' website.

Drupal, Joomla and Expression Engine (CMS)

The best way to build a great website is to start with a great platform. Content Management Systems allow your company to directly and easily update your website. A good CMS also lets a developer extend the core functionality so that it can be customized and tailored to your business. We have a preference for Drupal, but we can work with Joomla, Expression Engine or any other CMS you might have already deployed. This site was built with Drupal.

Adobe Flex and Adobe Air (a.k.a. Adobe Flash Builder)

Adobe has created an amazing framework for software development that utilizes the Flash player already installed on most computers. With Flex, a website can be created that looks and feels like a desktop application. With Air, a downloadable application can appear right on your desktop that can update itself and interact with other applications through drag-and-drop simplicity. Flex and Air are some of the easiest and quickest ways to make cross-platform rich internet applications for your business.

Objective-C / iPhone SDK / iPad SDK

Objective-C is the object-orientated and native programming language used by Mac OS X, the iPhone and the new iPad. Combined with the appropriate SDK (software development kit), powerful native applications can be developed that perfectly suit your business model. Well written objective-C code is easy to maintain and enhance in the future.

XHTML, CSS and HTML 5

If a website is not built correctly from the start, it will become difficult and expensive to change or upgrade in the future. System Werks employs best practices when building websites so that the content is separated from the layout. When used correctly, XHTML and CSS, along with the emerging HTML 5 standard, build fast-loading and flexible websites that look great.

4D (4th Dimension)

4D is a very mature integrated platform for rapid development of database-driven client/server applications. Originally developed for the Macintosh operating system, 4D applications can be deployed for both Windows and Mac OS X without any modifications. The 4D server is a very cost effective and powerful relational database server that can be installed on commodity hardware.

Print Workflow Technologies

System Werks will employ the right mix of existing and new technologies to help you produce your catalogs quickly and efficiently: QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Xinet, Cumulus, Xtags, AppleScript, etc. These are just a few of the technologies we are comfortable using to streamline and automate your catalog production process.

Web Services (SOAP, RPC, JSON, AMF, etc)

Sometimes all that a project needs is the right back-end tools for other software to latch onto and utilize. This is where web services come into play and System Werks can build them for you.

What can System Werks do for you?
